For Good of the Order

Disabled American Veterans, Gerald A. Shonk Florida Chapter 70 of Inverness, Florida is a 501 (3) Non-Profit.
Monies for the Good of the Order are used to keep the Chapter 'alive'.
While a disable veteran may be a life memeber, those monies goes to the national organization.
DAV HAS NO DUES.
We at the local level must raise our own funds to operate.
We have the lights, telephone and internet to pay for.
Then, office supplies, stamps, computers, printers, and paper goods for the hall.
We have mowers to cut the grass, but need 'gas money'.
We have insurance for the building and grounds
Do to codes/laws, we spend funds for building ungrades (electric, floor, handicap restrooms).

So if you could help us here, what we do for all veterans, not just disabled veterans - your help is needed.

VAN FUND

An on going fund to raise monies for new vans to transport vets. Todate we have two vans in use at the Lecanto Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). A fund drive, started in October of 2009 raised monies for a new van - now in service since June 2011, that van replaced our 2002 van, going to Gainesvile VA Medical Center.

Monies were raise for a second van, now in service since October 2014. We use a van to go The Villages Clinic, or Ocala - Hearing, Eye Clinic.

The V.A. taged and title these vehicles, and cover the cost of operations.

However the VA will not allow us to use the vans for anything other than taking veterans to medical appointment - we wish to raise funds for another vehicle, for use by our Veteran Service Officers or the Chaplain, pick up donations, take items to veterans, and to use in events such as parades, etc.
The current Commander would like to obtain a 10/2 or 12/2 (that a 10/12 passenger, 2 wheelchair) bus so that the Chapter may do more in helping veterans that would include those underable to use the vans.

This vehicle and this fund to support it, while not part the of the DAV TN, would be used ONLY for veterans here in Citrus County.

And could be use to transport our veterans to H. Lee Moffitt (cancer),
Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute,
James A Haley Veterans Hospital (Tample VA) (brain or spinal cord injury),
or Tampa General.

Such support will be for the vehicle, its insurance, registration, gas, oil, maintance, the general care of same.

Drivers would be volunteers - NOT PAID - for their services

Should you wish to donate 'gas cards' that would be of great help to those members and the volunteer drivers.
May we suggest you please donate a per-paid debit card, in the amount of five or ten dollars ($5.00 - $10.00)

Also should you wish to volunteer to drive
contact the Voluntary Services Office in Gainesvilles (352) 374-6068 or
Robert Bruno or Angela Wyatt - at the Lecanto Clinic,
2804 West Marc Knighton Court - 352-746-8060, or
Joe Stephens, Lecanto Clinic's DAV TN training/maintance officer - 342-489-5245.
