Born on May 2, 1926 to Arthur and Hazel Rollo in Lynn, MA
Charles was an U. S. Navy
veteran of World War II,
He served on the
USS Mannert Abele (DD-733),
a destroyer which was sunk by the Japanese Kamikaze aircraft off Okinawa
April 12, 1945 with the loss of 73 of her 336 crew
Mannert L. Abele received two battle stars for World War II service.
He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuried received that day
He came here 33 years ago from Hampstead, NH.
Mr. Rollo Was a retired Baker and Cook with the Danvers State Hospital, Danvers, Massachusetts.
He was a member of the V.F.W. and the D.A.V. (Florida Chapter 70)
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Shirley Rollo in 2013.
He is survived by three daughters:
Vicki Clifton and husband J.R. of Dunnellon,
Judy Aiken and husband Allen of Citrus Springs
Linda McConnell and husband Robert of Stanton, MI,
nine grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Shirley at the Crystal River Memorial Park Cemetery at 11 AM - Saturday September 3, 2016.
Graveside military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post 155 Honor Guard.
Strickland Funeral Home with Crematory of Crystal River is in charge of arrangements.
