Meeting of 9 May 2017

14:00 hours The Commander called the meeting to order, the opening ceremonies were held, there were
24 members present.
(01:30) The Commander asked the Chaplin, to call the roll of Officers.
Chuck Spikes was out - medical
All other were present and/or accounted for.
(02:22) The Commander was going to read the minutes of the last meeting, but had to correct himself, we have a visiter - John Seamen them reminded us that at the last meeting the Scholarship Committee has selected three people to be awarded.
Ken Bender made the presention at Citrus High School, on Thursday, May 4th to Alexandra Brice.
John Seaman will be doing the honors on Thursday, May 11th, at Cystal River High School, for Ethan Kennedy.
With us today is William Squire - Will's father is a life member of the Chapter. Will had to leave to go to school, before leaving he thanked us all for the grant.
Returing to the business at hand, Commander read the minutes of April meeting,
(13:14) A motion to approve the report, subejct to corections, was made Chuck Vassey and seconded by Al Hayes, voted on and approved.
(18:49) The Commander asked for the treasurer report
The treasurer report was given by the treasurer-nominee, Chuck Vessey, in the adsent of joe McClister.
Chucks plan for further meetings is to give a complete break down on expenses and collections, rather than just the summary.
A motion to approve the report was made John McGee and seconded by Richard Floyd, voted on and approved.
Do to the nature of these reports - Chapter members may ask the Treasurer to see them at the meeting hall.
Under Section 4.6 of the Chapter By-laws "...The Treasurer shall make a report on finances at each meeting and records shall be open to any member in good standing
when they request that record(s) in writing through the Executive Committee."
(15:40) The Commander asked Chaplin, to make the illness report.

Damon Shingleton - age 90 - Citrus Springs, FL - April 19, 2017 - U. S. Army - a formal Commander, Sr Vice Commander and Treasure
Sickness report, Chuck Spikes is about to under go back surgery.
Commander noted that if you know of a Chapter member who is ill, let us know so we may tell the Chaplain, so he can send a card.
(18:40) Commander noted no obligations to be given at this time do to elections. He is in hopes of having those awards next month.
Commander noted he has two from Gainesville VAVS - thanking us for the items we donated to them for the hospital (sweat pants).
Departmant Newsletters and four handout - DAV Department of Florida Newsletter for April 2017.
Commander noted the newsletter and the handout will tell you what they want you to do.
Titles with 'Like Other Americans', 'Congresswoman Julia Brownley', Senator Amy Klobuchar, and 'Senator Jerry Moran".
Commander pointed out that every member of chapter has a chapter email address, as web master he only needs your real email address to forward your email to you.
Commander spoke about the handouts, each has offered a bill to the House or Senate dealing with issues for veterans.
Since coming from DAV National - Commander suggested all read the handout and go to the links given or not, and send the note to the House or Senate given.

Commemorative Pin Committee:
John Seamen said that last month he showed us a drawing of the pin. He has the drawing of the final pin with the theme - "Twenty five years of Service to Citus County Veterans".
He is working on prices now. John pointed out that he will need more help from members in selling the pins.
After some discussion about the number of pins, John McGee made a montion to obtain 1,000 pins, second by Tony Russo, voted on and approve by all.

John Seaman again, first, thanking Ken Bender and Ron O'keefe, members of the committee.
Ken Bender for doing the honors at Inverness High School and Ron O'keefe for mailing letters out to those not chosen.

Commander announced that Chuck Vessey will also be acting as the Adjutant.
Commander announced that Edwin Matos will be acting as appointed Jr Vice Commander to do work on the Chapters' Volunteer Program.
Commander again thanked everyone for allowing him to add more Service Officers and allow the County Service Offficers to go to school.
Asked if the new Treasure had anything to add - not at this time.
(46:36) A Moment of Silence was held for our departed comrades.

(48:10) Commander ask Archie Gooding to stand - Achie was till a few monments ago, the Chapter's Jr. Vice., he is also President of Chapter 7 Rolling Thunder, Commander thanked him for his service for the five years as Jr Vice Commander with us.
His assitant over the years at the Golden Corral and for the help with the Missing Man Table we set up there.
Also noted that the Missing Man chair, proptery of Rolling Thunder has been moved into the office for safty reasons.
(51:35) Al Hayes said he had an electric cart to donate - Richard Floyd asked if Al would give it to the CCVC. Done deal.
Al Hayes also said his wife, Sunny, Commander of the Auxiliary - would like to have a join outing in July, after some discussion, John Seaman suggest September on our return - Commander suggest we put this on hold till our next meeting.
(42:18) Richard Floyd reports that he received a call about an 80 year old woman, widow of a veteran, who may lose her home, due to back taxes in the amount of $3,100.00 - the Foundation will give $1,500 of that, Richard ask that the Chapter give $500, Al Hayes made a motion for that amount, seconded by Ed Matos, pending more information on the issue before any monies are issued.
(60:00) John Seaman reports that he spoke to a member who has a Hov A Round who would like to give it to the Chapter - it will go to the CCVC - any one needs a 26" TV - see John after the meeting, a freebie.
(62:00) Dave Huntington - Lowes offers a 10% discount to veterans - both John McGee and Chuch Vessey pointed out that Home Depot is doing the same, both maybe done on line thur an online program with them.
(63:00) Max Alvarez made a motion that the Chapter buy a gift card for Jody Stephens who is doing the lunchons, seconded by John Seaman, Commander thanked both and excused him self from the discussion, Chuck Vessey took over the discussion, and based on Max's motion, the amount was to be fifty dollars for Stumpknockers On The River, voted on and approved. Chuck will take care of it.
(68:00) John McGee mention that Ken Wells with the County Service Officer will be leaving on June 26, and Ellan Davies has removed all her material off her office wall - Kim Menster so far said she is staying.
(69:00) Ray Michael reports that June 14 at 3 PM shelter A in Bushell - and that we should go in mass to the BCC meeting, since their do not show that they are for veterans.
(74:00) Mike Ostroski won the 50/50 - $24.00.
(76:00) Another drawing was held, for a 'door prize' - John McGee won - "Korea Reborn: A Grateful Nation" Produced with the cooperation of the United States and the Republic of Korea
(77:00) Bob Kline made a motion to adjoure, seconded by Ken Bender, approved by all.
Being no other business the Commander led the proper closing ceremony and declared the meeting of the Disabled American Veterans, DAV, Gerald A. Shonk, Chapter 70, Inc., Adjourned.
Our next meeting will be held on June 13, 2017 at 2 pm. - Come at 1 PM so we can feed you
