Meeting of 14 March 2017
Audio (57 minutes)
14:00 hours The Commander called the meeting to order, the opening ceremonies were held, there were
24 members present.
(01:33) The Commander asked the Chaplin, to call the roll of Officers.
Edwin Matos - Adjutant was out - medical
Artie Gooding - out
Service Officer John McGee - out
All other were present and/or accounted for.
(02:30) Commander announced we had no vistors or transfers.
(02:40) The Commander read the minutes of February meeting,
(08:55) A motion to approve the report was made Ken Bender and seconded by Ron O'Keefe, voted on and approved.
(09:25) The Commander asked for the treasurer report
The treasurer report was given by the treasurer.
There was confusion while giving the report - will give it later.
Commander noted that a non member who passed away, wished monies to be donated to the Chapter - that money goes into the Sunshine Fund, which aid Chapter members in distress.
A motion to approve the report was made Al Hayes and seconded by Dewey Drawdy, voted on and approved.
But the treasurer wished to recheck his figures and give the report again.
Do to the nature of these reports - Chapter members may ask the Treasurer to see them at the meeting hall.
Under Section 4.6 of the Chapter By-laws "...The Treasurer shall make a report on finances at each meeting and records shall be open to any member in good standing
when they request that record(s) in writing through the Executive Committee."
(14:30) The Commander asked Chaplin, to make the illness report.
We have three (3) passings.
Carl Bertoch - age 90 - Crystal River, FL - February 28, 2017 - U. S. Army, Korea - Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
Two reports of sickness, Ed Matos, recovering for leg surgery and Richard Floyd, who is under going radiation very soon.
Commander noted that that if you know of a Chapter member being ill, let us know so we may tell the Chaplain, so he can send a card.
(16:15) Commander noted no obligations to be given at this time. He is in hopes of having those awards for those who to come to the meetings next month.
Two - 1) DAV Department of Florida News Letter for February 2017.
Commander noted page three has a letter from the new VA Director, noted his history, and made comment to same.
Commented on the membership list - we are short the amount listed - 102 out of state, more like 572 than the 597.
(26:28) Treasurer was ready to announce the correct figures for his report.
David Huntington moved to approve the new report, Dewey Drawdy, seconded, voted on and approved.
(28:12) Committee Reports:
Commemorative Pin Committee:
John Seamen reports that last month we took in $2,097.00. We still have above 24 pins left
Commander noted that as the webmaster, he will have 'store' on line on the website, selling pins and anything else we may have.
(28:57) Scholarship Committee
John Seaman again, received four applications. Fielded a few phone calls, again they have been send out to the schools, the paper ran an article on it, and we have copies in the office.
Committee is made up of John Seaman, Ron O'Keefe, Ken Bender - we will have a winner by the end of March.
(29:53) Election Committee:
Commander pointed out that he - Commander - can have nothing to do with this committee, only members may appoint who is on it.
Ray Micheal will do this again, Marie Del Baron will help.
Joe Stephens is again running for Commander, Ken Bender for Sr Vice, John Seaman for Chaplain. Still looking for other to fill the other postions.
(38:42) Grievance Committee:
Again, we do not have one as no one has any grievances but the Commmander is still talking to much.
(38:49) Unfinished (Old) Business:
(38:53) New Business:
Jimmy Yeary made note that the fair is comng up - do we have a booth there.
Commander pointed out that only a very few people do any thing and most are busy with the regular day today to spend time at the fair.
We just do not have the people who want to do anything.
(50:08) A Moment of Silence was held for our departed comrades.
(51:35) Good of the Order:
(52:47) KenBender won the 50/50 - $18.00.
(53:36) Another drawing was held, for a 'door prize' - Al Hayes won - Belt Buckle, given to us by the VFW of Floral City.
(55:11) Al Hayes made a motion to adjoure, seconded by Bob Kline, approved by all.
Being no other business the Commander led the proper closing ceremony and declared the meeting of the Disabled American Veterans, DAV, Gerald A. Shonk, Chapter 70, Inc., Adjourned.
