Meeting of 13 June 2017

14:00 hours The Commander called the meeting to order, the opening ceremonies were held, there were
20 members present.
Since we had the elections, we are now going to swear in those elected.

Note that Chuck Vessey - Treasurer/Adjutant is out on vacation - he had planned this long before taking these postions.
He will be sworn in at the September meeting.
(00:03:00) After the swearing in - the meeting went on.
(00:03:20) The Commander did the call of Officers.

All other were present and/or accounted for.
We have several vistors, both with us and the auxiliary - the guest from Hospice are with the auxilary, Mike Fine of Inverness, FL here to see what we are about.
(00:05:00) The Commander read the minutes of the last meeting, May.
(00:16:50) A motion to approve the report was made Archie Gooding and seconded by Dewey Drawdy, voted on and approved.
(00:17:10) Commander turning meeting over to Chaplin while he finds the Treasurer's report.

We have two (2) passings.
Kenneth Webb - age 92 - Hernabdo, FL - May 5, 2017 - U. S. Army Air Corp
Edward Powers - age 96 - Inverness, FL - May 29, 2017 - U. S. Army, a Bronze Star recipient.
Sickness report, Chuck Spikes is about to under go back surgery.
J.J. Kennedy is home after having back surgery.
If you know of a Chapter member who is ill, let us know so we may tell the Chaplain, so he can send a card.
(00:18:32) The Commander could not find the treasurer report
It was in with all the hand out, so someone may have it.
A motion was made John McGee and seconded by Al Hays, to dismiss with that reading.
Departmant Newsletters and four handout - DAV Department of Florida Newsletter for May 2017.
They were two Newsletters, April and May, we will deal with May.
Handout from DAV National - dealing with the Predisent's Budget.
The other two deal with that items also.
Comments about the handouts and other items dealing with same.
Commander also noted that copies of the Department Newsletter are at the Hall and on the Chapter's web site.
One of the handouts, also given to the Auxiliary, deals with fund raising for Camp Corral.
DAV and the Golden Corral set up a camp for children of veterans.
Commander thinks it very nice but he would like to do things for kids of veterans in this county.
Veterans Appear Act for 2017 - you can look at that on line.
The other deals with Auxiliary - informing them that starting in September the Chapter will need the whole Hall.
Do to the space we use - we will need the whole Hall - we will not longer have meeting together while still apart.
Other times were given for them to use the Hall.

Commemorative Pin Committee:
John Seamen said he order the 1,000 pins per last month approval. The pins will cost $1.00 each.
(00::40:57) Scholarship Committee
John Seaman again, He did go to the Crystal River awards - the awards went well, our awardee Steven Kensee, who over all recieved over one hunderd thousand dollars in total scholarship.
John read the thank you letter from Miss Brice, Inverness High School Awardee.
John read another thank you note from .
Reminded us that we met the awardee William Squire last month and with that, closed out the 2017 Awards.

Again, we do not have one.

Commander ask Bob Kline to stand - Bob, a DAV TN driver for Lake Panasoffkee.
Commander and his wife, drove over to meet with Bob to bring back the Lake Panasoffkee van to Lecanto.
We placed the van in service for Lecanto and since have put more miles on it than all of last year.
Since no service has been done this year from there, Gainesville allowed us to take the van for use in the western part of the county.
We have the van, now for the drivers.
Commander noted that last week he had a veteran come into the Hall - he makes jewelry,
he would like to teach another veteran, then turn his business over the him.
He also went to Veteran Services the tell them.
Commander noted that our 60th birthday is coming up - he would like some input for the outside of the building.
Commander also noted the Seal for DAV is no longer being used for name tags and other item. Just the new DAV logo.
He pointed out that a new shirt from National is $60.00 with four buttons, and a seal patch - not the life member patch just the seal.
He has shirts with the US flag, buttons and life member patch on them for $40.00 eaach.
Commander pointed out that starting in September - ALL those who are elected or appointed will be in proper garb.
He also noted that we will also be having Ex-Comm meeting the first Tuesday of each month, also starting in September.

(00:57:50) A Moment of Silence was held for our departed comrades.
(00:59:25) Good of the Order:
Richard Floyd reports that the $500 approved at the last meeting will not be used, everyone dropped out, Al Haye made a montion to rescind the offer, seconded by Richard Floyd, voted on and approved, offer resinded.
John McGee - four things, 1) new computers - we got new computers - but the email service is still very weak, maybe we need more bandwidth, Commander will check on that.
2) Why do we have five service officer here - no one comes into the Hall at night - Commander pointed out that all service offficers are to check the machine to see if anyone called to get back to them.
3) fill disclosure - John is MC for Operation Welcome Home, Barbarb Mills got that going. John would like to have some kind of packet from DAV 70 to give to them.
Commander pointed out the several years ago the Chapter passed that the Chapter would paid the $40.00 fee for membership to DAV.
John pointed out that we did not go to these Welcome Home events, Commander pointed out that both Berry and Dewedy have been going on behalf of the Chapter. John Seaman and Ray Micael both said they go also.
After much discussion, on a montion by Archie Goodman, seconded by Al Hayes that a Veteran's Appreciation Commemorative Pin, certificate from the Chapter and a fifty dollar gift card from Wal-Mart, be given, voted on and approved.
4) fill disclosure - John is also with the Fall Hero Monument - we (Chapter) should give donate to add with its up keep
Again, after much discussion, on a montion by Ray Michael, seconded by Dewey Dawdy, that a donaion of $300.00 for that use, voted on and approved.
Ray Michael - pointed out the Service For the Unattended at Bushnell - Commander pointed out the Flag Day event in Inverness, again we have the same problem - who is going to do it.
John McGee had one more thing, he then call Jody Stephens over - he presented her with a gift card for Stumpknockers On The River, as Thank You for doing the lunches for the Chapters.
This item was voted on last month by the Chapter.
Drawing - 50/50 - $25 won by McClaren Walker.

(01:29:10) Bob Kline made a motion to adjoure, seconded by Al Hayes, approved by all.
Being no other business the Commander led the proper closing ceremony and declared the meeting of the Disabled American Veterans, DAV, Gerald A. Shonk, Chapter 70, Inc., Adjourned.
Our next meeting will be held on September 8, 2017 at 2 pm. - Come at 1 PM so we can feed you
