Meeting of 11 April 2017

14:00 hours The Commander called the meeting to order, the opening ceremonies were held, there were
24 members present.
(01:41) The Commander asked the Chaplin, to call the roll of Officers.
Ray Michael was out - medical
All other were present and/or accounted for.
(02:44) Commander announced we had no vistors or transfers.
(02:40) The Commander read the minutes of March meeting,
(08:14) A motion to approve the report was made John McGee and seconded by Ron O'Keefe, voted on and approved.
(08:36) The Commander asked for the treasurer report
The treasurer report was given by the treasurer.
A motion to approve the report was made Al Hayes and seconded by Dewey Drawdy, voted on and approved.
Do to the nature of these reports - Chapter members may ask the Treasurer to see them at the meeting hall.
Under Section 4.6 of the Chapter By-laws "...The Treasurer shall make a report on finances at each meeting and records shall be open to any member in good standing
when they request that record(s) in writing through the Executive Committee."
(10:04) The Commander asked Chaplin, to make the illness report.
We have two (2) passings.
Edwin Carr - age 89 - Crystal River, FL - March 13, 2017 - U. S. Army
Russell W. Lipske - age 90 - Lexington, SC - March 16, 2017 - U. S. Navy
Two reports of sickness, Ed Matos, recovering for leg surgery is here today, and Richard Floyd, who under went radiation is doing well.
Commander noted that that if you know of a Chapter member who is ill, let us know so we may tell the Chaplain, so he can send a card.
(11:34) Commander noted no obligations to be given at this time. He is in hopes of having those awards for those who to come to the meetings next month.
Departmant Newsletters and three handout - DAV Department of Florida Newsletter for March 2017.
Commander noted the newsletter and the handout will tell you what they want you to do.
Dealing with Housing, other with Adult Care, the third with COLA.
Commander spoke about page three of the Newsletter about the Hot line being fixed.
The report makes no mention how many lines are within the Hotline, from want he (the Commander) has read, the fault is based on not having enough people to man the phones.
Commander spoke about a program on PBS last night dealing with returning warriors and how the DOD and the VA are dealing with it.
Deals with the Army Transition Units and how he and his family is dealing with it.
You have to listen to the minutes on this.

Page 11 deals with volunteers - Commander has signed the Chapter up for that, so when you sign in here at a meeting, you will be credited with 4 hours of your time.
That is for awards, pins etc.
(29:12) Committee Reports:
Commemorative Pin Committee:
John Seamen reports we are starting a new year with a new theme - "Twenty five years of Service to Citus County Veterans".
He is working on what the pin will look like.
(30:51) Scholarship Committee
John Seaman again, received the highest number of applications ever.
Twenty five applications are in, the committee is working on them.
They will be two scholarships and one $1,000.00 grant.
Committee is made up of John Seaman, Ron O'Keefe, Ken Bender - we will have a winner by the end of April.
(33:00) Election Committee:
Commander pointed out that Ray Michael is out and Marie Del Valle is not yet ready to offer a report.
Commander announced that he, Joe Stephens, is again running for Commander,
Ken Bender for Sr Vice,
John Seaman for Chaplain.
John McGee for Jr. Vice,
Dewey Drawdy for Sgt at Arms,
and Arnold "Chuck" Vessey for Treasure.
Officer of the Day is still open.
Adjutant, Ed Matos will do it again, is appointed.
The postions of Sevice Officers are chosen by the rank and file.

Again, we do not have one.

Commander has appointed John McGee to head a three person committed to look into our 60th Anniversary which is July 2018.
Commander pointed out that only a very few people do any thing and if you wish not to do something for the Chapter why are you a member.
He pointed that he is greatful to both John Seaman, and Joe McClister without whom nothing would have been done.
Commander said he was greatful for the Chapter to allow six service officers,
along with two of the county services officers to go to school, who report they learned more there than at their school.
Commander noted that as a service officer, he and the other chapter officers are holding in house classes to learn more, so as to do more.
We at the Chapter have been able to obtain higher service connected ratings for county veterans.
Pointed out again that last year we did over 700 Q&A, and this year over 300 Q&A so far.
(51:00) A Moment of Silence was held for our departed comrades.

(54:08) Berry Harvey mention that forms are at the Hall for clothing alloments if anyone needs them.
(54:40) Commander again noted that we are looking for drivers for the DAV TN to service just the Hommosassa area, giving details on that run.
(59:00) Ken Bender won the 50/50 - $29.00.
(53:36) Another drawing was held, for a 'door prize' - John Seaman won - "The Greatest Generation" by Tom Brokaw
(60:45) John McGee made a motion to adjoure, seconded by Al Hayes, approved by all.
Being no other business the Commander led the proper closing ceremony and declared the meeting of the Disabled American Veterans, DAV, Gerald A. Shonk, Chapter 70, Inc., Adjourned.
Our next meeting will be held on May 9, 2017 at 2 pm. - Come at 1 PM so we can feed you
