Meeting of 10 May 2016
After DAVA Commander Sunny Hayes introduced the current DAVA State of Florida Commander, Shirley Kirkland, and former DAVA State of Florida Commander, Marie Bare
(00:00:40) A joint section was held, with quest speaker, David Duffy of Wheelchair Caps, Inc.
He was there to address the group on a product (Wheelchair caps) he would like the Chapter and Auxillary to be in on with him.
After his persentation, he departed.
(08:45:00) Closing the 'wall' and passing out copings of the Department of Florida's Newsletter, plus other items of intertest.
(15:46:00 )The opening ceremonies were held, there were
19 members present and two guest.
(17:18:00) The Commander asked the Chaplin to call the roll of Officers, in the absent of the Adjutant.
All were present and/or accounted for.
(18:05:40) The Commander read the minutes of the last meeting of April 12, 2016,
a motion was made by Archie Gooding,
seconded by Al Hayes, to accept them.
The minutes were approved by all.
(25:47:20) The Commander asked for the treasurer report
The treasurer report was given by the treasurer.
A motion to approve the report was made Archie Gooding and seconded by Ken Bender, voted on and approved.
Commander made note of the 'Sunshine Fund' - that when Neville Anderson was here, he saw to it the fund was alway kept up, but with his passing we have been a little lax with it.
Asking again that members remember to donate to that fund to assist our member veterans.
Do to the nature of these reports - Chapter members may ask the Treasurer to see them at the meeting hall.
Under Section 4.6 of the Chapter By-laws "...The Treasurer shall make a report on finances at each meeting and records shall be open to any member in good standing
when they request that record(s) in writing through the Executive Committee."
(28:53:00) The Commander asked the Chaplain, John Seaman, to make the illness report.
No member have passed now for the second month in a row.
Ray Michael - is with us after surgery.
Richard Floyd, a pass Commander is home and doing well after a going to the have his heart checked.
(29:47:50) Two new members, to take the obligations.
Sgt at Arms bought the two before the group.
Randy Ault and Kristopher Henshaw
Commander gave the obligation.
Chaplain presented the award pins.

(34:32:00) Commemorative Pin Committee:
John Seaman, chairman, reports the theme on the Korean War and Korean Service veterans which the ad hoc committee approved.

John said he has a final dollar amount is $630.00 for 600 pins.
Ray Michael made a motion, seconded by Al Hayes for that figure, voted and approved by all.
(37:55:30) Commander turned the meeing over to John Seaman, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee
The Committee has meet and approved three scholarships.
Chairman Seaman announced that he was Citrus High School last night and present a check to Savannah Davenport for $1,000.00.
Well, a form of check - the money goes to the receiver school in their name.
The Committee approved $1,000.00 to D'Shaun Adams, last year winner, he maintains an A plus average in premed school.
Chairman Seaman presented a check in the amount of $500.00 to Kristopher Hanshaw of WTC.
He was winner of the veteran award.
(39:31:20) Election Committee:
Commader read Article 4 and Article 6 of our By-Laws dealing with elections.
(44:30:50) Chair Ray Michael, did the honor calling out (three times) those who are running for office.
Joe Stephens for Commander - postion was moved to be close by Al Hayes, seconded by Bob Kline, voted on and approved.
Chuck Spikes for Sr Vice - postion was moved to be close by Al Hayes, seconded by Bob Kline, voted on and approved.
Archie Gooding for Jr Vice - postion was moved to be close by Al Hayes, seconded by Bob Kline, voted on and approved.
Joe McClister for Treasure - postion was moved to be close by Al Hayes, seconded by Bob Kline, voted on and approved.
John Seaman for Chaplain - postion was moved to be close by Al Hayes, seconded by Dewey Drandy, voted on and approved.
Dewey Drandy for Sgt at Arms - postion was moved to be close by Al Hayes, seconded by Joe Stephens, voted on and approved.
Officer of the Day for Ray Michael - postion was moved to be close by Al Hayes, seconded by Joe Stephens, voted on and approved.
The Commander has yet to find any one wishing to be the Adjutant
Should any one wish to enter their name, please do so.
Since the Commander could find no one to swear us in we will be 'at large' pending a swearing in (Commander could find nothing in the National or Chapter By-laws about officials holding offic having to be sworn in).
(50:13:00) Grievance Committee:
Again, we do not have one as no one has any grievances.
(50:17:00) Unfinished (Old) Business:
Heat pressing equipment for t-shirts, cups, hats has arrived.
An eight in one, not a six in one.
But it is still under the price we voted on.
(50:32:00) Chuck Spikes did a 'show and tell' on the press.
(01:02:11) New Business:
Commander had given out handouts for the Department Newsletter, he spoke at length on those handouts and the Newsletter.
This was rather long - you should hear it.
Also that the Department was running a 'paid' membership campain, that the Department will pay $35.00 towards you life membership if you have not paid in full yet
(01:20:00) A Moment of Silence was held for our departed comrades.
(01:22:55) Good of the Order:
The 50/50 drawing was held after sometime as to who had the winning ticket - Al Hayes won $18.00 he turned over to the Sunshine Fund.
Another drawing was held, for a 'door prize' - new member Randy Ault won - Victory at Sea CD.
(01:25:05) A motion to adjourned made be Bob Kline - seconded by Al Hayes - voted on and approved.
Being no other business the Commander led the proper closing ceremony and declared the meeting of the Disabled American Veterans, DAV, Gerald A. Shonk, Chapter 70, Inc., Adjourned.
Our next meeting will be held on June 14, 2016 at 2 pm.
