Meeting of 12 January 2016
Since we had a guest who was there to address the group, the Commander announced a joint section with the Auxiliary, after stating such called the meeting to order at 14:00 hours.
The opening ceremonies were held, there were
17 member and two guest present.
(02:04:86) Our quest, Phil Royal, who is running for Sheriff of Citrus County was given the floor.
After making a short statement and thanking us for being here, he stated his ideas if he because Sheriff.
(16:25:00) Commander closed the joint section - thanking our quest.
(16:25:30) The Commandere asked the Chaplin to call the roll of Officers, in the absent of the Adjutant.
Chuck Spikes - Sr. Vice - sick call
Adjutant - Carolynn Favreau - sick call
All others were present and/or accounted for.
(17:18:00) Minutes of the last meeting on December 8, 2015 were read by Commander Stephens.
A motion to accept was made by Archie Gooding.
Seconded by Al Hayes.
The minutes were approved.
(21:53:00) The Commander asked for the treasurer report
The treasurer report was by the treasurer.
A motion to approve the report was made Archie Gooding and seconded by Ken Bender, voted on and approved.
Do to the nature of these reports - Chapter members may ask the Treasurer to see them at the meeting hall.
No copies will be made.
(23:17:30) The Commander asked the Chaplain, John Seaman, to make the illness report.
Two member had passed since our last meeting:
Lawrence M. Kellam - Loundon, TN - Age 96 passed on 27 December, 2015 - U.S. Army
Thomas A. Eidson - Dunnellon, FL - Age 66 passed on 7 January, 2016 - U.S. Marine
Tom Harris is still at home after surgery.
Chuck Spikes and Carolynn Favreau are still out, she with eye and knee problems, he with back problems - wish both of them well.
Anyone knowing of a comrade who is ill should contact the Chaplain so he may take appropriate action.
(10:45:00) We have two members to take the obligations, both oped out at this time.
(25:47:00) Old Business:
No Department of Newsletter - so we have no newsletter for January.
(26:54:00) New Business:
Commander made note that we now have five service officers at the Chapter, Joe McClister, Joe Stephens, Ken Bender, Dewey Drandy, Ronald O'Keefe.
Three, maybe four, will be at the Hall after 16:30 to file claims, as there is no one in the County open at night to file claims.
So we will be open till maybe 19:00 hours or later on Monday, Wedneday, Thursday, Friday - Not Tuesday as we are here all day for that.
That will start sometime very soon, we work also make arrangement to go to them, we have two such request from live ins now.
(31:05:30) Committee Reports:
(31:97:50) Commemorative Pin Committee:
John Seaman, chairman, reports all the pins are now sold.
He picked up the last of the pin money from the Veterans Services Office, Lecanto.
We have so far raised $1731.00 in the sale of the pins, both new and old.
The Chapter made $1,108.00 profit on the over all sales of the 2015 pins.
John will still be looking for another supplier, and is working on the new design for a theme on the Korean War and Korean Service veterans.
(32:10:00) Scholarship Committee:
John Seaman is working on a new set of rules, but only the date will change.
Things will be ready to go out in February.
(32:56:00) Election Committee:
Chair Ray Michael - states there is nothing to report.
(33:35:00) Commander reports that three months ago the Chapter gave him the approval to look into a 10/2 bus.
Commander reported that he found two buses, one with 150,000 miles, the other with 164,000 miles, both have an asking price of $15,500 as is, but with will have little or no back up funds for it, should we need someting.
Archie Gooding moved that we should wait awhile, while the Commander looks for a better deal and/or finds a corpate sponsors.
Again, noting why a wheelchair bus, under VA guildlines if you can 'walk' Medical transport will not take you, so those who, while using a wheelchair, if you can walk, MT will not take you.
So the Commander see a need for those in the area, who need chairs, who need rides to appointment, both in this area and Tampa, we should have the meads to take them.
(39:00:00) We have no minutes of the Ex-Com, that the Commander has spoken to/with those on the board and what is said to them is noted in our regular meeting.
(39:15:00) A Moment of Silence was held for our departed comrades.
(40:45:00) Good of the Order:
Ray Micheal mention the ceremonies at Bushnell National Cemetery for the Unattendened once a quarter, next is at 15:00 hours in March, shelter A.
We need more DAV members to go, wear something that shows you are with DAV.
(42:01:00) The 50/50 drawing was held with a $17 was won by Bob Kline.
Another drawing was held, for a 'door prize' - a DAV lap throw.
Willam Holland was the lucky winner.
(45:00:00) A motion to adjourned made be Bob Kline - seconded by Ken Bender - voted on and approved.
Being no other business the Commander led the proper closing ceremony and declared the meeting of the Disabled American Veterans, DAV, Gerald A. Shonk, Chapter 70, Inc., Adjourned.
Our next meeting will be held on February 9, 2016 at 2 pm.
Joe Stephens, Webmaster on behalf of the Adjutant
